You would enjoy the NAS museum then. Hey we got the only ZERO... :-) hehehe

And the carrier setup is really neat to see.

But getting to a beach will be your problem.... My Island (Santa

Rosa/Pensacola Beach) is still off limits.

So is Perdido Key and Dolphin Island.

But you can drive down to Ft Walton. (about 30 min) Their beaches aren`t

on barrier islands

for the most part. And I`ll bet you can find Charters operating in

Destin. (the best SW fishing in the country)

Have you seen our beaches?? The most beautiful in the US!! The sand is

silica, pure white and squeaks

when you walk on it and the Gulf is a beautiful emerald green. A great view!

Their Condo didn`t take damage?? Where is the Condo at? Pensacola Beach,

Perdido Key, Dolphin Island

condos are just about all damaged in some way. But if it`s livable you

can get a written note from

the owners to allow you access to it. There are check points on all the

islands to prevent people other

than owners and residents from accessing the islands at this time.

You Florida people think Ivan hit Florida. <grin> The center came

ashore between Gulf Shores and Palmetto Beach in Alabama. The damage

was much worse in Florida than in Alabama but Ivan hit in Alabama so

Florida only got 3 this year. Get over it. <even bigger grin>

I would agree that getting confirmed reservations is a must with a

final confirmation the day before you arrive. A major management firm

here has 600 confirmed reservations for 1/1/05 and they are asking

owners to make sure to tell them if the rooms won`t be habitable by

then. Riiiight... So even a confirmation at Christmas might not mean

the room would be available in January. Looking at the lights at night

I should be able to easily see 6 condo towers. Only 4 were lit last

night. And having power is just the first step in having a place to

stay. At one point on the beach road the sewer line was folded up

about 12` above the ground. And the part still underground was full of

sand. Water, telephone, cable, etc. were similarly destroyed. But,

HEY!, the golf courses are all open. Even the State Park Course.

Beaches. We have Pensacola`s sand over here. (Hey, buddy, want to buy

some sand? :) ) The damage to construction on the beach was almost

complete but we have had open beaches for over a month. My local

favorite is Bon Seqour NWLR on Ft. Morgan Road (Palmetto Beach). Went

down there in late September and the only people around were a couple

of National Guard in a Hummer preventing people from walking the beach

back to West Beach in Gulf Shores which was still closed. The several

miles of NWLR beach was all open and still even has some dunes.

So there are public beaches open West of Pensacola. Just plan on

getting a room in Montgomery (250 miles). :) Or if you want to try

over here we have http://www.gulfshores.com/closings/ for information

on about every business.

Dale

Still temporarily Corvetteless while waiting for the winter sales.

P.S. If you are going to Google it, using the spelling Dauphin Island

will get more results. ;) And contrary to popular belief, it is open.

The most powerful and most damaging part of a hurricane that has entered

the Gulf

of Mexico is the Eastern Eye Wall. We got slammed head on by the Eastern

Eye Wall.

I`d much rather have the eye -vs- the eye wall. Like Erin that had the

eye pass directly

over my house. That was cake compared to Opal or Ivan where we got hit

by the wall. :-)
